Injectable Anti Wrinkle Muscle Relaxants treat facial lines that become visible as your face moves. Relaxing these muscles delivers an appearance that is fresh and smooth. Existing lines will soften and new lines will be avoided with regular treatment. Anti Wrinkle Muscle Relaxants can even be used to shape and lift the face.
Anti Wrinkle injections may also be known to you as Anti Wrinkle Muscle Relaxants or Anti Wrinkle treatments. They are used to treat facial lines that become visible as your face moves with expression, like the ‘11s’ with frowning and crows feet or ‘laughter lines’ with smiling. Relaxing these muscles relaxes your lines and delivers an appearance that is fresh and smooth. The best part is that your existing lines will soften and new lines will be avoided with regular treatment over time.
You may not be aware that Anti Wrinkle Muscle Relaxants can even be used to shape and lift the face. A great example is jawline slimming where your bulky masseter muscles on either side of your jaw can be shrunk down with Ant Wrinkle injections to give a more ‘heart-shaped’ face.
In her welcoming, boutique clinic in Surrey Hills, Melbourne, you can feel reassured Dr. Jodie will only ever create a subtle and natural looking outcome with her Anti Wrinkle treatments.

Dr. Jodie will first assess your face to see if you are a good candidate for Anti Wrinkle Muscle Relaxants. She will administer your Anti Wrinkle injections with a tiny needle to ensure you are comfortable throughout. The procedure is completed relatively quickly, within a 30 minute appointment, and is very well tolerated requiring little to no recovery time, so you can get on with your day. Injectable Dermal Fillers treat static lines and age-related sagging. They can lift and define your natural contours and enhance your signature features. They can even restore your facial balance and proportions; the key to facial rejuvenation and looking better. The results of a skilled treatment can be a refreshed and natural face. Dr. Jodie will only use non-permanent fillers, as your needs may change over time.
Dr. Jodie can refresh your face with Dermal Fillers by delivering subtle, natural enhancements that leave you feeling and looking your best.
Dermal Fillers are essentially injectable gels made from a sugar that is naturally found in your skin. They are designed to minimise the various signs of the natural ageing process.
You may already be aware that Dermal Fillers can be used to treat static lines on your face. These are lines that are present even when your face isn’t moving, such as nasolabial lines that occur between your nose and the corner of your mouth, or lip lines that form above your upper lip. Wrinkles eventually become ingrained with time because of repeated facial expression, like smiling or pursing when you speak, and can behave in a ‘scar-like’ way if not addressed early enough.
However, did you know that Dermal Fillers can also lift a sagging face? Dr. Jodie can use Dermal Fillers to restore facial volume, ideal proportions and balance, to create a lifted, fresher look. In fact, this process is the key to facial rejuvenation and looking better. Dr. Jodie believes it achieves a far more significant result than simply line chasing with Dermal Fillers, as it targets the cause of age-related changes rather than just the effect.
Moreover, Dermal Fillers can also be used to define your natural contours, like your cheekbones or jawline, and enhance your signature features, such as your lips. In Dr. Jodie’s hands, the outcome of treatment is always subtle yet significant.
Dermal Fillers are a fantastic way to refresh your face without the need for invasive surgery. In her welcoming, boutique clinic in Surrey Hills Melbourne, Dr. Jodie will first analyse your face to see if you are a good candidate for Dermal Fillers. During your assessment, she will identify your unique Dermal Filler needs and explain the process of treatment thoroughly before proceeding, with plenty of time to answer any of your questions. She will document before and after photos to help follow your progress along the way. Once your face is carefully cleaned, Dr. Jodie will use ice, numbing cream, or local anaesthetic injections to numb the area prior to injecting, although the procedure is relatively comfortable, even without this additional help. In fact, the Dermal Fillers come pre-packaged already containing local anaesthetic to minimise any discomfort during and after your treatment. Dr. Jodie will then use a small needle or cannula (a fine blunt-ended instrument to bypass bloods vessels and nerves) to administer the product. For any Dermal Filler treatment, Dr. Jodie will always allocate 60 minutes for your appointment, so there is ample time for personalised and considered care without feeling rushed. You can feel reassured that her subtle ‘tweaks’ and enhancements will keep you looking natural and fresh, never fake or augmented.

Skin Boosters are an injectable form of skin care that improve skin texture, hydration, and overall skin glow. They draw water to the dermis of your skin to restore the hydrobalance and stimulate your own collagen network to combat age-related thinning of skin. Skin Boosters are a fantastic treatment for dull, rough, and dehydrated skin.
Dr. Jodie can refresh your face with Skin Boosters by delivering a natural glow to your skin. This treatment is essentially a form of injectable skin care, which may otherwise be known as ‘Skin Glow Treatment’. Apart from improving skin brightness, Skin Boosters will also improve skin hydration and skin texture, leading to significantly better overall skin quality that you can actually see.
You may already be aware that Dermal Fillers and Anti Wrinkle injections, in the right hands, provide natural looking enhancements to your face. However, did you know that you can combine these treatments with Skin Boosters to finesse your look? Dr. Jodie recommends that Skin Boosters are best administered following such treatments as the final touch. However, Skin Boosters may also be used in the absence of other cosmetic injectables, which may be more appealing if you feel a little nervous of Dermal Fillers or Anti Wrinkle injections.
Fortunately, Skin Boosters are suitable for every skin type, offering lasting benefits for all.
Skin Boosters are injectable gels made from a sugar that is naturally found in your skin, like Dermal Fillers. However, they have been processed slightly differently to produce a fine soft product that can be delivered more superficially to the dermis of your skin. At this layer, near the top of your skin, Skin Boosters act to draw water and stimulate collagen over time. This action hydrates and strengthens your dermis adding to your skin’s support, and creates the perfect solution for dull, dehydrated and rough skin. In fact, treatment with Skin Boosters will improve your skin brightness, hydration, and texture.
Let’s face it – you live in your skin! As the largest organ of your body, it is the first thing everyone visualises. Studies show that good skin quality is perceived as being more youthful than even lack of facial wrinkles and lines, so there is no question that Skin Boosters are key to a refreshed, natural look! It is also vital for longevity that you look after your skin well, as it remains your main protective barrier against harsh elements of our environment. The good news is that Skin Boosters will help keep your body’s barrier in good working order by strengthening your dermis.
Skin Boosters are fantastic for improving the appearance of poorly textured or ‘crepey’ skin.
Dr. Jodie can essentially treat all parts of your face, with the exception of your Tear Troughs (or under eye hollows), where the powerful hydrating action of Skin Boosters may cause puffiness. However, she may recommend focussing on areas that are more deserving, especially your lower face, where there tends to be more sag and typically greater skin laxity. Unlike Dermal Fillers, Skin Boosters do not add volume or projection to your face – your facial contours will stay the same, but your skin will appear softer. Treating your face with Skin Boosters is more akin to ‘lying down a sheet’ than ‘lying down a doona’, which avoids bulking areas of your face; a risk with Dermal Fillers administered with inappropriate techniques by inexperienced clinicians. This additional superficial, thin layer is key to better skin hydration, smoothness and glow.
Skin Boosters can also be used to treat the backs of your hands to reduce the sinewy appearance of any tendons that may be visible, a give-away of the ageing process. Furthermore, they can help improve the texture of the skin on your neck and minimise the appearance of neck lines.
Dr. Jodie will assess your face, neck or hands to see if you are a good candidate for Skin Boosters (which almost everyone is). To ensure you are comfortable throughout your procedure, she will use local anaesthetic injections at the entry site to numb the area prior to treatment. Fortunately, like Dermal Fillers, Skin Boosters are also manufactured pre-packaged with local anaesthetic. Dr. Jodie will use a cannula (a fine blunt-ended instrument to bypass bloods vessels and nerves) to administer the product. Although the skin over your whole face or neck or hands may be treated, she will target areas that are the most ‘crepey’ or lax, which will be more beneficial. Usually 2 or 3mls of product in total is required per treatment per area. It is best to treat one part of the body at a time.
Following treatment is important to be aware that you may swell as Skin Boosters tend to be very hydrating. Swelling may persist for 5 to 7 days, although generally it is quite minimal and not noticeable to others. Bruising is rare but also settles within 5 to 7 days. Dr. Jodie always recommends that you time your Skin Booster treatment carefully with your social calendar.
Results will look best at 4 weeks, so it is important not to judge your outcome prematurely. Even better, your skin glow can last as long as 6 to 12 months, results that are supported by an abundance of clinical studies.
Skin Booster treatments are designed to give your skin a boost and the outcome is always a natural looking, healthy glow. Who wouldn’t want softer, smoother, brighter skin?
By addressing dull, rough, or dry skin, Skin Boosters are key to refreshing your natural look. Dr. Jodie will tailor your treatment so that the more troublesome areas of your face receive the most attention. However, she will also ensure that all parts of your face, as well as your neck and your hands, are rejuvenated.
Remember, Skin Boosters are not designed to lift, volumise or contour your face, so the risk of looking fake or augmented is virtually non-existent. Regardless, this is never Dr. Jodie’s style. You can always feel confident of a natural looking outcome in her skilled hands. Her preferred approach is to keep you looking like you, only fresher. And this is exactly where Skin Boosters come into play.
Dr. Jodie has been delivering Skin Booster treatments in Melbourne for over a decade. In fact, she led the national campaign educating other doctors, specialists and nurses in Skin Boosters for a major pharmaceutical manufacturer of cosmetic injectables. With her knowledge, expertise and skillset, you can always feel reassured that Dr. Jodie will use the latest and best techniques to deliver the highest quality products. As a cosmetic physician who has worked closely with leading cosmetic dermatologists in Melbourne for more than 10 years, skin rejuvenation is most definitely her ‘thing’. You can relax knowing that she (or one of her hand-picked, highly trained clinicians) will personally administer your treatment and offers longer appointment times for assessment, explanation and question time prior to injecting. This client-centred approach has allowed Dr. Jodie to foster long lasting relationships with her very loyal following in Melbourne.

Fat Dissolving Injections are a non-surgical option for treatment of a double chin. Excessive fatty tissue under the chin can be minimised with a series of injectable treatments to better define your neck profile and jawline.
Fat Dissolving injections are a fantastic non-surgical option for treatment of your double chin, providing you with a reliable alternative to liposuction and laser ‘fat freezing’. With a series of injectable treatments, Dr. Jodie can minimise the presence of any fatty tissue under your chin to better define your neck profile and jawline.
Fat Dissolving injections work as they contain an active ingredient that naturally occurs in the body that normally breaks down dietary fat. Unfortunately, even with diet and exercise, a double chin may not disappear, without the help of medical intervention. Clients with double chins often report feeling like they look heavier and older than they actually are. By targeting fatty areas that you cannot ‘spot train away’, Dr. Jodie can give you the facial profile you have always wanted and restore your confidence.
Sometimes treatment can be extended to include your jowls, as well as various other body parts like the abdomen and flanks, but in the Dr. Jodie clinic, treatment primarily targets elimination of your double chin.
In the comfort of her boutique clinic in Melbourne, Dr Jodie will assess your lower face to see if you are a suitable candidate for Fat Dissolving injections. If you have significant fatty deposits under your chin with a lot of skin laxity, you may be better suited to an alternative procedure. However, if your double chin is mild to moderate in size, with good skin quality and firmness, Fat Dissolving injections can offer an effective solution, without the need for an overly invasive treatment. Dr. Jodie will take the time to carefully analyse your face and assess your unique fat dissolving requirements, as well as explain your planned procedure in detail prior to commencing. She will document your progress with before and after photos, so you can feel reassured you are achieving the result you desire.
After thoroughly cleansing your neck, Dr. Jodie will use local anaesthetic injections to numb the area under the chin to ensure your procedure is comfortable. To prioritise your health, Dr. Jodie will identify important anatomical structures and assess the extent of your fatty tissue to customise treatment to your individual needs. A grid like pattern will be marked out on your skin to guide treatment injections for optimal results and tiny needles will be used to administer the product to minimise any discomfort. Dr. Jodie recommends icing your treatment area extensively following your procedure to minimise swelling, which may be obvious in the first week after treatment.
Most commonly you will require two to four treatment sessions spaced four weeks apart to achieve your desired outcome. Over time, with Dr. Jodie’s knowledge and skilful Fat Dissolving treatment, you will develop a reduction in the size of your double chin and a more contoured neck profile and jawline.
Dr. Jodie is a trusted name in Melbourne for Fat Dissolving treatments, with her background in family medicine and a decade of experience in cosmetic medicine. She always takes a holistic approach to your cosmetic care with thorough assessment, considered treatment planning and careful delivery of your treatment itself. All procedures are personally conducted by Dr. Jodie herself or one of her hand-selected, highly trained staff, so you can feel confident of the standard of care you receive. Dr. Jodie is a national clinical trainer for one of the largest pharmaceutical suppliers of cosmetic injectable products and regularly teaches other doctors and specialists the art of injecting. With Dr. Jodie’s knowledge and expertise, you can feel comfortable that she has the skillset to minimise your unwanted double chin and refresh your unique face with a natural look.

The Skin Bio Remodelling Injection stimulates your body’s own collagen and elastin, minimises age-related facial fat loss and hydrates the skin from within. To better understand the role of this treatment in skin health, try to imagine parts of a Biostimulator and Skin Booster combined! It not only counteracts skin laxity or sagging by restoring skin firmness and elasticity, but also helps to smooth fine lines and crepiness, and replenish dehydrated skin for the ultimate glow up.
The Skin Bio Remodelling Injection might be new to Australia in 2022 but has been extensively used throughout Europe and other parts of the world for almost 8 years, with over 5 million treatments worldwide.
As Dr Jodie will explain, the main benefit of this treatment is firmer, less saggy, more hydrated, smoother skin.
An interesting and much understated benefit of this treatment is activation of immature fat cells to slow the loss of facial fat through ageing, something Dr. Jodie believes is quite ground-breaking.
In the cosmetic medical industry, the Skin Bio Remodelling Injection is known as ‘liquid honey’, as it spreads throughout the face from multiple injection sites, unlike Dermal Fillers which are gel like and more solid. Like Dermal Fillers, it is made from the same sugar that is naturally found in your skin, however, it is a unique complex that is most like our own native tissue. Unlike Dermal Fillers that have been made through a chemical process, it has been made through a thermal or heating process and is often referred to as ‘pure’.
The beauty of this treatment is that it offers skin glow without adding volume or bulk to your face. So, it is perfect for anyone who is nervous of looking overdone or puffy with Dermal Fillers. Even so, for best results The Skin Bio Remodelling Injection should be used in conjunction with other rejuvenation treatments and is not a replacement for Dermal Fillers, which can contour, volumise and structure your face, or Anti Wrinkle Injections, which can soften or prevent fine lines. Interestingly, Dr. Jodie notes that the European experience has been that requirements for such treatments are less when using the Skin Bio Remodelling Injection in parallel.
Currently, this treatment has only approved for use on your face in Australia, unlike Europe and elsewhere, where it has also been approved for your neck, décolletage, and your hands. It is likely that this situation will change over time.
Dr. Jodie will assess your face to see if you are a good candidate for the Skin Bio Remodelling Injection, which fortunately, most people are. During your assessment, Dr. Jodie will explain the process of treatment and you will have ample time to ask any questions before proceeding. With multiple biostimulating and hydrating treatments on the market, it can be quite confusing, so Dr. Jodie will help you decide if this is your best option. Before and after photos will be taken to document your progress and response to treatment. Dr. Jodie will first thoroughly clean your face, so it is best you come without make-up to your appointment. The treatment is generally very well tolerated and does not usually require numbing prior; however, ice and topical anaesthetic cream are available if your pain threshold is particularly low. Prior to injecting, Dr. Jodie will mark out the 5 bio aesthetic points or BAP sites on each side of your face, which have been specially formulated to maximise the spread for best results. She will use a tiny needle to inject 0.2mls of the 2ml syringe per BAP site superficially into your skin, a technique which tends to minimise bruising. Although a welt will appear at each BAP site, these tend to disappear by the next morning, with some even settling before leaving the Dr. Jodie clinic! This treatment truly has little to no recovery time, which is a huge bonus, so you can get on with your life.
Serial treatments are typically required. Initially, most client require 2 treatments (occasionally 3), separated by at least 4 weeks. After this, a booster treatment is required once every 6 to 12 months.
The hydrating effect tends to subside after 6 months, while the collagen and elastin stimulation and other effects are long lasting.
As the Skin Bio Remodelling Injection stimulates your body’s own collagen and elastin, among other things, your results will always appear natural. The product does not contour, volumise or structure your face, so it is not possible to create an augmented look. It simply hydrates your skin and improves skin laxity by firming your skin, so you will always look just like you only fresher. Dr. Jodie is known for her natural aesthetic and the Skin Bio Remodelling Injection certainly fits well into her armoury of anti-ageing treatments.
Dr. Jodie takes a ‘whole face’ approach to your facial assessment and will tailor a personalised treatment plan to meet your unique needs. Unlike others who may take a ‘cookie cutter’ approach, she is fully aware of the different ways in which people age and can help you formulate the best anti-ageing plan for you. Moreover, she will help you order and prioritise your most beneficial treatments, always keeping in mind your budget and lifestyle. When it comes to skin, let Dr. Jodie guide your choice, whether it is the more traditional Skin Booster or Biostimulator Treatments or the newer Skin Bio Remodelling Injection. Keep in mind that the younger you are, the less skin ageing you have, but you have better ability to stimulate collagen – treatments tend to be preventative. The older you are, the more skin ageing you have, but you have less ability to stimulate collagen – treatments tend to be restorative. The ideal candidate is early 40s to mid 50s, but everyone can benefit. When Dr. Jodie uses the Skin Bio Remodelling Injection, she is generally guided by the recommended BAP sites for injection; however, she can ‘tweak’ her approach to ensure you receive maximum benefit for your unique pattern of ageing.
Dr. Jodie’s clients trust her advice implicitly. Many have been with her for more than a decade. She is a leading cosmetic doctor in Melbourne and sought after for her natural aesthetic. Dr. Jodie is also a national clinical trainer for one of the leading pharmaceutical suppliers of cosmetic injectables, regularly presenting at conferences and workshops throughout Australia, and even overseas. Moreover, she currently plays a significant role in mentoring local clinical injectors one-on-one. With her background is in general practice, and with more than 10 years working in a cosmetic dermatology clinic, Dr. Jodie has the knowledge and know how to refresh your natural look, while prioritising your safety, as she is always your doctor first.

Biostimulators, in the form of either mono threads or injectable treatments, act to stimulate your body’s own collagen to improve skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, acne or other scarring, skin tightness and sometimes even a sagging face.
In her Melbourne clinic, Dr. Jodie will carefully assess your face and decide if you are a suitable candidate for Mono Threads. These are small, suture-like threads, made from a synthetic material which stimulates collagen, that are inserted under your skin superficially using a fine needle. Numbing cream will be applied to the intended treatment area for 1 hour prior so you feel comfortable throughout. Most often this is all that is all that is needed, but occasionally, she will perform a local anaesthetic nerve block for additional pain relief. It is not uncommon for treatment to involve more than 100 threads, so bruising is somewhat inevitable. Some mild to moderate swelling is also common. So, it is important to time your treatment with events in your social calendar. Results from collagen biostimulation are seen at 12 weeks, although improvements may be noted as early as 6 weeks. Tightening will continue over 6 to 12 months. Yearly maintenance treatments are recommended.
Injectable Biostimulators are not threads. Injectable Biostimulators refer to an injectable solution or fluid that contains synthetic particles that stimulate collagen. Once Dr. Jodie has ascertained that this treatment is right for you, she will administer the solution using a cannula, a fine blunt-ended instrument that reduces bruising. A small amount of local anaesthetic is injected at the cannula entry site, although the vast majority of clients find this procedure extremely comfortable. The treatment area is confined to the outer aspects of your face or areas where there is less facial movement, (unlike Mono Threads which can be inserted almost anywhere in the face). Recovery time is minimal, with no to minimal bruising and minimal swelling resulting from the procedure. Injectable Biostimulators require a series of treatments (2 to 3) separated by 4 to 6 weekly intervals. Results may be seen as early as 6 weeks, but your final results will ultimately require the full course of treatments and last up to 25 months. Yearly maintenance or top up treatments are also recommended.
Mono Threads can be used essentially anywhere on your face and body to treat skin laxity, soften lines and wrinkles, and improve skin tightness and texture. Common treatments include forehead lines, frown lines, brow lift, cheeks, lines around your mouth, nasolabial folds, jowls, as well as jawline strengthening and neck lines. Mono threads can even be used on your body to address your decolletage and tighten loose abdominal skin. Collagen biostimulation is one of the most effective ways to improve skin quality and tautness with natural looking results without creating a ‘bulky’ or overfilled look.
Injectable Biostimulators are limited to the outer areas of your face, including your outer forehead, temples, outer cheeks, below your cheeks, in front of your ears and your outer jawline, areas prone to age-related volume loss and sag. They may also be used to treat your neck lines and to round out or lift your buttocks. They cannot be used in dynamic areas of your face where there is significant facial movement, such as around your mouth. However, Injectable Biostimulators don’t just improve skin quality and tightness (like Mono Threads), they have the added benefit of creating tissue volume. In other words, they can also help restore age-related volume loss in your face and address facial sag via collagen biostimulation.
Dr. Jodie will guide your treatment plan so that you don’t have to worry which Biostimulator to choose. She is knowledgeable in the pros and cons of each type and can help you decide on the most appropriate treatment based on your unique facial needs, lifestyle and budget. Moreover, she will integrate the use of Biostimulators into your schedule of Anti Wrinkle injections and Dermal Fillers to optimise your facial rejuvenation, so you can better plan the order of your treatments. Dr. Jodie will always offer a tailored approach to your cosmetic injectable treatments and does not believe in ‘one size fits all’ measures, because, let’s face it, we are all unique.
The best thing about Biostimulators, whether Mono Threads or Injectable Biostimulators, is that they rely on your body’s own collagen stimulation to generate your result, so a natural looking outcome is essentially guaranteed. The tell-tale signs of cosmetic intervention will not be apparent, as the improvements that develop over time are reliant on your body’s innate mechanisms of rejuvenation and collagen biostimulation. However, in the event that your treatments are combined with Anti Wrinkle injections and Dermal Fillers, you can feel confident in Dr. Jodie’s ability to subtly craft a refreshed and natural look, so you still look like you. She is a strong advocate for a ‘less is more’ approach to cosmetic treatments. From her Melbourne clinic, Dr. Jodie will always ensure your outcome is as natural as possible, especially with Mono Threads and Injectable Biostimulators on board.
Dr. Jodie is well known for her subtle and natural looking enhancements. With her background in family medicine and with more than a decade of industry experience, you can trust that Dr. Jodie will comprehensively address your concerns around ageing and your rejuvenation treatments. She has longer appointment times for thorough facial assessment, treatment planning and the treatment process itself. What Is Involved In Having A Skin Peel At The Dr. Jodie Clinic in Melbourne?
Dr Jodie’s therapist will assess your skin holistically, specifically addressing any concerns you may have, and will formulate a Skin Peel plan to optimise your skin health.
When it comes to Lactobotanical peels, first your face will be thoroughly cleansed, and any dirt, makeup or oil removed with a cleanser and a special pre-peel preparatory solution. Sensitive areas will be protected with vasoline.
The peel will be applied with brush and left on your skin for 3 to 5minutes, whilst your skin is carefully monitored. During this process you may experience a tingling sensation. Frosting (a transient white discolouration) may be apparent.
The peel with then be neutralised with a special neutralising solution. At this stage, no further tingling should be apparent. A nourishing and anti-ageing serum will be applied, followed by a moisturiser with SPF.
Depending on the Skin Peel type applied, you may have no to minimal recovery time, mainly in the form of redness, flaking or short-term frosting. Dr. Jodie’s therapist will ensure your Skin Peel regime is appropriate for your skin type and needs and carefully planned to minimise any downtime. Your therapist will also recommend an at-home skin care regime to compliment your in-clinic treatments and ensure your skin is well prepped for your next appointment.
Tailored Skin Peels In Melbourne’s Dr. Jodie Clinic
It is a common misconception that professional Skin Peels must be aggressive, high concentration solutions that result in excessive visible peeling, scabbing and significant recovery time to obtain results. This is simply not true!
While some skin conditions, such as extremely photo-damaged skin or severe acne scarring, may require a more aggressive approach, this is not required for most clients who are looking for skin rejuvenation.
If your goal is healthy, beautiful skin, then a progressive, low dose approach to professional treatments is usually your best choice. Peels of different strengths and combinations can utilised within your treatment plan to increase your skin’s natural cell turnover rate, while also addressing your specific skin concerns, leaving you with smoother, brighter, more even-looking skin.
You can trust Dr. Jodie’s therapist to offer you a comprehensive assessment and Skin Peel regime specific to your unique skin health requirements. She will also optimise your at-home skin care program to get the best results out of your in-clinic treatments.

What Is The Scarlet S?
The Scarlet S is a minimally invasive, fractional Radio Frequency Microneedling device that offers total skin rejuvenation. It combines the benefits of skin microneedling with the rejuvenating power of radio frequency energy to address multiple skin concerns, including loose or sagging skin, crepey skin, wrinkles and lines, enlarged pores, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and even cellulite.
How Does The Scarlet S Rejuvenate Skin in Melbourne’s Dr. Jodie Clinic?
The Scarlet S is the first true fractional Radio Frequency Microneedling device. It provides direct radiofrequency energy to the epidermis and dermis with precise depth control (from 0.5mm to 3.5mm) using a microneedle electrode system. This ultimately stimulates collagen throughout all layers of the skin to provide a healthy, radiant glow.
This fractionated system treats multiple columns of skin via its microneedles, leaving adjacent skin between the columns untouched. The untouched, untreated skin surrounding the treated columns facilitates healing of the treatment zone, which means (1) recovery time is less and (2) treatment can actually penetrate more deeply (than if it were a non-fractionated, fully ablative system that ‘blanket’ treats the entire surface area of the skin).
The Scarlet S can tighten lax or crepey skin, minimise enlarged pores and acne scarring, reduce pigmentation, and even improve cellulite. At the Dr. Jodie Clinic, the primary focus of treatment will be on face, neck and decolletage rejuvenation to promote skin tightening and textural improvements, but the Scarlet S can be used on many parts of the body, including inner arms and inner thighs.
How Does The Scarlet S Compare To Other Radio Frequency Microneedling Devices?
You may have already heard of other Radio Frequency Microneedling devices, such as ‘Morpheus 8’ and the ‘Secret’. However, Dr. Jodie believes that the Scarlet S is the safest and most effective treatment system that carries the least recovery time.
This is largely due to the patented ‘Na Effect’ technology (which is named after the Korean doctor who pioneered it) – a technology that delivers radiofrequency energy in a unique way, leading to more effective skin tightening skin in fewer treatments and requiring a single pass only over the desired treatment area. It utilises non-insulated tapered needles that release and dissipate energy throughout all layers of the skin evenly.
Competing devices typically use insulated needles that require multiple passes over the treatment area to capture different layers of the skin, so treatments tend to be longer, more painful, and create more bleeding, redness and swelling. Moreover, competing devices, with their need for multiple passes, carry with them a higher risk of burns from overlapping passes. By comparison, treatments with the Scarlet S tend to be is more comfortable and less time consuming, with next to no bleeding and minimal redness and swelling that is short-lived. You can typically resume your daily activities the day following treatment, if not before.
How Does Scarlet S Compare To Laser for Skin Rejuvenation?
The great news is that radio frequency devices like the Scarlet S are suitable for all skin types, even darker skin types. Unlike laser, energy released from radio frequency devices is not ‘chromophore’ dependent. This means that energy in the form of heat will not be drawn to more pigmented areas, but, rather, dissipates uniformly throughout the layers of the skin, irrespective of pigmentation. Lasers in darker skin types can create problems like hyperpigmentation (darker skin patches) or hypopigmentation (white skin patches).
What Is Involved In Treatment With Scarlet S Radio Frequency Microneedling In Dr. Jodie’s Clinic in Melbourne?
Dr. Jodie’s therapist will apply numbing cream 30 minutes prior to your treatment. Numbing cream is not always necessary but recommended if you think you have a low pain threshold. Dr. Jodie who, ironically, is the absolute worst with pain, has managed this treatment without requiring any topical anaesthetic!
You will have time to have any questions answered prior to commencement of your treatment.
Once your skin is numb, Dr. Jodie’s therapist will thoroughly cleanse the desired treatment area to remove any impurities and residual anaesthetic cream.
With a new, sterile, patented microneedling tip attached to the device, your therapist will then treat the desired area by gently ‘stamping’ the entire treatment zone in a single pass. You may still feel a tiny prick and heat during this process, which is completely normal.
Following treatment, a soothing serum will be applied to calm your skin and you will enjoy a complimentary LED treatment to assist your recovery process and further enhance your rejuvenation. This feels like bathing in the warmth of the sun, but instead it is actually good for your skin!
Finally, Dr. Jodie’s therapist will explain your after care at length, so you feel comfortable and confident when you leave the Dr. Jodie clinic. You may appear slightly red and swollen but this tends to settle over a few hours. On occasion the redness will last for 24 hours or more, but this is not the norm.
Typically, Dr. Jodie suggests that 2 to 3 treatments are required 6 to 8 weeks apart. It takes time for collagen to build. Most collagen stimulating treatments are best assessed 4 to 6 months post treatment.

What Is The Excel V+ Laser?
The Excel V+ laser is an innovative device that uses advanced laser technology to treat an array of vascular conditions (primarily), but also pigmentation and skin photo-ageing. It aims to improve uniformity of skin colour by addressing unwanted reds (blood vessels) and browns (pigment), as well as minimising lines, wrinkles, pores, acne scarring and other textural imperfections for enhanced skin rejuvenation.
The Excel V+ laser is a fast becoming the gold standard treatment in dermatology for vascular conditions, but it can also be used to treat pigmentation and help undo the signs of photo-ageing.
It is essentially like having multiple lasers in one, due to the option of multiple wavelengths and multiple different patented handpieces.
The Excel V+ laser delivers light energy at one of two specific wavelengths, 532nm or 1064nm, to target chromophores within your skin that lie either superficially or deep. Chromophores are the molecules responsible for the colour of your skin and are often more concentrated within your skin complaints. These include melanin (responsible for skin pigmentation or brown spots), oxyhaemoglobin (responsible for red spots and blood vessels), and water, among others. Light energy is absorbed as heat preferentially by your chromophores, which are consequently selectively damaged. This leads to the breakdown of pigment and the spasming down of blood vessels. Your body instinctively removes damaged tissue and regenerates new skin with new collagen minus the unwanted colour.
The interchangeable handpieces make the Excel V+ laser incredibly versatile.
The CoolView™ handpiece emits either long pulse 532nm or 1064nm energy via a sizeable cooling interface to treat both small and large target areas of red (blood vessels) or brown (pigment) on the face, neck, decolletage or body, in a variety of skin conditions, in a variety of skin types. The CoolviewTM handpiece is the mainstay of treatment for the Excel V+ laser, but treatment may entail some recovery time.
The Dermastat is a fine, pen-like tracing device that can be used to treat the tiniest lesions, whether red or brown, with incredible precision. This add-on feature means that no skin concern is ever too small to treat.
The GenesisV™ handpiece should be thought of as a completely different laser within the Excel V+ device. It uniquely delivers much shorter micropulses of light energy to the skin for high level skin rejuvenation, with next to no recovery time. It includes both:
The Excel V+ can treat a wide range of skin complaints on the face, neck, decolletage and body, including:
Your first step is consultation with the Dr. Jodie therapist, who will carefully assess your skin to ensure you are a good candidate for treatment. She will explore your main skin concerns and help you decide if your skin goals are best met with an Excel V+ Spot Treatment, Global Treatment, or Laser Genesis rejuvenation or a combination approach. Clinical photos will be taken using advanced filters that clearly define the extent of your vascular and pigmentation issues. In darker skin types, a test patch may also be undertaken in this session. Most importantly, your Dr. Jodie therapist will outline the expected number of sessions required and the costs involved.
Spot Treatment and Global Treatments
Your Dr. Jodie therapist will cleanse your skin thoroughly and apply a cooling gel (unless the aim is a spot pigmentation treatment, which doesn’t require gel). She will also apply goggles to protect your eyes from the laser light.
When the laser is discharged, whether it is 532nm or 1064nm long pulse energy, you will experience a rubber band like snap against your skin. It will cause a little discomfort but is extremely manageable. The cooling interface with the CoolViewTM handpiece offers significant relief and no numbing is required. Regardless, numbing gels are not recommended as they may cause vasoconstriction of blood vessels and interfere with treatment results.
Your therapist will use a combination of the CoolviewTM handpiece and the Dermastat handpiece to conduct a ‘spot treatment’ of red spots (such as an isolated ‘broken blood vessel) or brown spots (such as an isolated age spot) or a ‘global treatment’ that involves treating a larger target area of the face, neck, decolletage or body, focusing on generalised redness or pigmentation.
This type of treatment may involve some recovery time as it is possible to experience some redness, swelling, bruising, darkening of pigmentation, crusting, and so on.
Laser Genesis is quite different. Using the GenesisV™ handpiece, your Dr. Jodie therapist deliver shorter micropulses of light energy for skin rejuvenation in a way that carries no downtime. Both traditional laser genesis and green genesis feel like warm wax being dripped
onto your skin or a warm prickly sensation, which is extremely tolerable and arguably enjoyable.
No gel is required, although googles are still a must.
Immediately following treatment, you can get on with your day, without any significant evidence of treatment or impediment to your social calendar.
The great news is that your Dr. Jodie therapist can modify your Excel V+ laser settings to tailor your treatment to your exact needs, based on your skin type, the skin concern being treated, and your unique ‘real time’ response to laser therapy. At the Dr. Jodie Clinic, there is never a ‘one size fits all’ approach, whether it be cosmetic injectables, skin care, or devices. Less sophisticated, inexpensive lasers do not have the same capacity for adjustment of settings as the Excel V+ laser. As with most things in aesthetic medicine, you get what you pay for, and it is important to understand that not all lasers are built equally. The Excel V+ laser is an exceptional, state-of-the-art device that enables your therapist to adjust the handpiece, wavelength, spot size, fluence (energy), pulse duration, and even the temperature, to maximise your clinical results and safety.
Dr. Jodie has worked in the aesthetic medicine industry for nearly 15 years and is highly experienced in all skin treatments, including devices. Her prior experience working in a leading dermatology practice has afforded her the knowledge and ability to select only the best lasers available on the market. All the guesswork has been removed for you. At the Dr. Jodie clinic, there is a focus on high-reward, low-downtime, rejuvenation devices that actually deliver results. Moreover, Dr. Jodie’s therapist has been carefully selected and trained under her personal supervision to safely deliver all your skin treatments with the highest level of care, with your health and safety being of paramount importance. Your Dr. Jodie therapist will take a holistic approach and tailor a personalised skin health program that incorporates a range of devices, including the Excel V+ laser (if appropriate), at-home skin care and in-clinic skin peels and LED therapy, among other treatments. At the Dr. Jodie clinic, you can trust that he advice you receive is well considered and accommodating of your unique skin health needs.

What Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
Intense pulsed light, commonly referred to as IPL, is a non-invasive skin therapy which utilises high-intensity light pulses for skin rejuvenation and to treat a variety of skin concerns. Intense pulsed light is used selectively to target pigmented and vascular lesions resulting in noticeable clearer, brighter skin with a more even complexion. It may also enhance collagen production to reduce skin laxity, erase fine lines and fade the appearance of wrinkles.
At the Dr. Jodie clinic, we only use the latest, state of-the-art technology. The Medi Pulse Pro XL IPL system is a non-invasive and non-ablative device which delivers intense pulses of light energy to the skin. The light energy is absorbed by molecules known as chromophores within our target skin cells. Chromophores are responsible for the colour that you see in your skin and the skin lesions you wish to treat. They include melanin (in pigment), haemoglobin (in blood vessels), and water, amongst others. The chromophores absorb the light energy as heat and the target cells are damaged. Your body then naturally removes the damaged tissue and generates new tissue in its place, without excess skin colour and with improvements in skin texture.
The Medi Pulse Pro XL is a particularly sophisticated IPL which also doubles as a BBL-like device. BBL technology allows for energy to be delivered using a gliding motion rather than a stamping motion, which allows heat energy to build more slowly and dissipate more easily. As a result, the surrounding ‘bystander’ tissue is not heated or ‘damaged’ as much when targeting chromophores, which means the treatment is more comfortable and less likely to cause complications from thermal injury. It also enables larger areas to be treated more quickly, so you can get on with your day.
IPL is effective at treating sunspots, age spots, freckles, red-brown dyschromia, and many other forms of hyperpigmentation.
IPL can also treat photo-aged skin to help minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the quality of your skin texture.
It is can even treat vascular conditions, including broken blood vessels, spider veins, and generalised redness.
However, at the Dr. Jodie clinic we tend to recommend the IPL for treatment of pigmentation or for rejuvenation if you are generally more prone to developing pigmentation. We like to reserve the Excel V+ laser for vascular issues and its Genesis function for rejuvenation if you are generally more prone to developing blood vessels.
Your first step at the Dr. Jodie clinic is always a consultation. During your appointment, your therapist can explore your skin concerns and assess whether you are a good candidate for IPL. She will determine if your treatment should involve a pigmentation (or vascular) focus, or a general rejuvenation focus, or a combination approach. Clinical photography using various filters to highlight your skin changes will be undertaken to help identify your main skin issues. A test patch will also be performed to further assess suitability and help determine your treatment settings.
Once your treatment plan is formulated and your test patch is completed, your first treatment appointment can be undertaken.
At your treatment appointment, your therapist will gently cleanse and prepare your skin, including the application of a cool, conductive gel. You will be required to wear protective goggles throughout your treatment, but your therapist will talk to you, so you always feel in control and informed.
Depending on the focus of your treatment, your therapist may consider a ‘spot treatment’, a ‘global treatment’, or a ‘rejuvenation treatment’.
During a spot treatment, your therapist will target a handful of brown (pigmented) spots (or occasionally red spots) and you can expect to feel a rubber band like flick and mild to moderate discomfort and heat. This type of treatment will entail some recovery time, as your pigment will initially darken and then eventually lift off or fade out.
During a global treatment, your therapist will treat a larger area of skin, including your whole face, neck or decolletage, for generalised pigmentation (or occasionally generalised redness). Mostly this treatment will be conducted using the device’s BBL-like gliding mode and you can expect to feel a more gradual build-up of heat in the treated tissue. Sometimes, a stamping mode will be necessary, which will feel more like a spot treatment, with more intense heat and a rubber band snap. A global treatment, like a spot treatment, will entail some recovery time.
During a rejuvenation treatment, your therapist will again treat a larger area of skin, such as your entire face, neck or decolletage, for collagen stimulation, better skin texture and more uniformity of skin colour. This treatment will only ever be conducted using the device’s BBL like gliding mode, but at much lower energy than a global treatment. You can expect to feel a gentle build-up of low heat in the treated tissue. Unlike a spot treatment or global treatment, a rejuvenation treatment is a minimal or no downtime event.
Regardless of the type of treatment you undertake, following your session your therapist will outline your expected recovery and carefully explain your aftercare.
It is important to understand that all IPL treatments require multiple sessions for your best results. 4 to 6 treatment sessions are generally recommended 4 weeks apart, although spot treatments may yield results after 1 to 2 sessions, although there is no guarantee.
Your Dr. Jodie therapist will take time to understand your personal skin goals and create a tailored plan for your unique skin health needs. Your individualised treatment plan will consider your skin concerns in the context of your general health, your skin type, your lifestyle, your capacity for downtime, and your budget. If you are prone to pigmentation, it is likely that your personalised plan will incorporate the Medi Pulse Pro XL IPL system. Unlike other less sophisticated IPL systems, the Medi Pulse Pro XL IPL has been custom built specifically for the Dr. Jodie clinic to focus solely on skin quality, (not hair removal or tattoo removal), with multiple specialised filters dedicated to the treatment of pigmentation, rejuvenation, and even vascular issues. Moreover, there is significant capacity to fine tune your treatment to your exact requirements as the Medi Pulse Pro XL IPL has highly adjustable settings, which is not always the case with other less advanced systems. At the Dr. Jodie clinic, we understand that every face is different – there is never a ‘cookie cutter’ or ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Dr. Jodie has worked in the cosmetic medicine industry for over a decade, with significant training and experience in advanced medical skin peels, LED therapy, skin needling, lasers, radiofrequency devices, targeted ultrasound, among many other things. Dr Jodie’s therapist has been carefully selected and trained under her supervision to deliver all skin treatments with the highest level of care, prioritising your health and safety. Your therapist will always ensure that your skin concerns are addressed in a holistic manner and tailored to your personal skin health needs. Your individualised treatment plan will consider the benefits of the full range of devices offered at the Dr. Jodie clinic, including the Medi Pulse Pro XL IPL (if appropriate), as well as an at-home skin care regime, and in-clinic program incorporating skin peels and LED therapy. At the Dr. Jodie clinic, we understand that beautification and anti-ageing requires a multi-layered approach to achieve your best results.
