What are Tired Eyes?
The tired eye look is best described as a sunken appearance under the eyes, casting dark shadows and projecting a look that screams ‘I am tired’. The hollows that form under the eyes are called the tear troughs.
Why do they happen?
As we age there is a loss of bone in the eye socket, descent of the fat pads, drooping of the muscle that surrounds the eye and increasing skin laxity. This causes the tissue around the eye to sag and a hollow begins to form. It’s made worse as the cheek also begins to sag, adding to the downward pull.
It is normal to have a slight hollow, but tired eyes develop when the tear trough is excessively deep.
How are Tired Eyes treated?
The task is to soften the tear trough hollow whilst keeping a natural contour. Dr. Jodie believes the key to tear trough rejuvenation is total mid face rejuvenation.
If we refresh the cheek with Dermal Fillers it lifts and improves the overall look and smoothness of the tear trough without directly injecting the tear trough itself. Once the cheek is adequately filled Dr. Jodie can place a small amount of Dermal Filler in the tear trough itself and create a refreshed look that eliminates tired eyes.
Dermal Filler injections in the tear trough can be dangerous and the tissue is delicate and prone to overfilling, so take great care in selecting an experienced clinician. Dr. Jodie is experienced in all aspects of treatment of tired eyes.
