What are Nasolabial Folds?
Nasolabial Folds are the folds that form between the nose and mouth. As we age the cheek bones shrink, the cheek fat pads droop, hollows form under the eyes and we lose volume from the entire midface. This causes the inner cheeks to fall forwards and downwards on the face, creating a sagging fold and an aged look we all want to avoid.
Sometimes Nasolobial Folds are evident on younger people who have lost significant weight not only from their body but also their face.
How are Nasolabial Folds treated?
Dermal Fillers are the mainstay of treatment for Nasolabial Folds.
There are two routes here. Some (often inexperienced) clinicians suggest treating the Nasolabial Folds in isolation, but this tends to deliver a short-lived result and can lead to a bulky Nasolabial Fold with repeated treatments.
Dr. Jodie prefers to address the cause not just the effect. This approach involves refreshing the entire mid face, not just the Nasolabial Fold, with Dermal Fillers. Dr. Jodie’s aim is to refill under eye hollows, rebuild the cheekbones and lift the drooping fat pads in a way that gently pulls back the inner lower cheeks. This improves the overall look of the Nasolabial Folds without adding bulk.
Global facial treatments give a more natural look than isolated facial treatments. A ‘whole face’ approach is key to facial balance and harmony.
